This is Your Brain on Design: The Current State and Future of Design Neurocognition

Workshop Aim:
The aim of this workshop is to present the current state of research related to design neurocognition and collectively discuss the challenges and direction for design neurocognition in the future. We will facilitate a series of mini-presentations from selected panel members followed by a panel discussion. Participants will meet in small groups to discuss both ideas and questions that arise from the presentations and panel discussion. Workshop participants will leave with an understanding about the current state of design neurocognition research related to the methods being used, neuroimaging instruments, advanced data analysis techniques, and how neurocognition is contributing to design theory and practice. Participants will leave with a larger network of researchers studying design neurocognition and with new ideas about the future possibilities for design neurocognition in research and practice.

Questions relevant to this workshop include but are not limited to:
• What is the current state of research related to design neurocognition?
• What methods from neurocognition are being used to study design?
• What advanced data analysis techniques are useful to understand design?
• What challenges persist with methods and techniques?
• What questions about design can neurocognition help answer?

Submission information:
Participants do not need to submit anything to attend the workshop. Participants should come prepared to the workshop ready to briefly describe (3-5 minutes) their current research related to design neurocognition or ideas they hope to study related to design neurocognition.

Workshop format:
This interactive workshop will be structured with three parts:
1. Short introductions from workshop attendees about their research related to design neurocognition and/or ideas they hope tp pursue related to design neuorcognition
2. Mini-presentations from selcetdpanel members followed by a panel discussion
3. Small group discussions among workshop attendees about the future of design neurocognition
